Topographic Thinning ("Onion") Model

The image analysis team at inviCRO has developed an approach based on topographic thinning or "onion peeling" to quantify the distribution of the radiolabeled particles within a region of interest.

The “onion” model was born from a collaboration of researchers from inviCRO, University of New Mexico and the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute while developing an imaging assay to assess the deposition of radiolabeled particles of varying properties in the respiratory tract of mice and rats. The model, applicable to various imaging modalities, provides an unprecedented level of detail derived from imaging data.

The four images shown here are comprised of (left-to-right) an X-Ray CT (used to segment the tumor), the CT plus related SPECT data of the entire animal, the CT plus SPECT of the segmented tumor only (different color scale), and the CT plus inviCRO's onion model of the segmented tumor.
